Strong leadership for Jackson County

Proven Leadership, Diligent Service

Jackson County needs and deserves leadership that will represent ALL the people in a TRANSPARENT, SELFLESS way, with INTEGRITY and DILIGENCE!

These are values that I hold dear and strive to live my life by daily, and values I commit to bringing to the Jackson County Commission Chairman position.

I am dedicated to bringing positive change to our community where needed, while also championing worthy programs and initiatives that are already in place (ie, completion of fairgrounds, extension of the county greenway, navigating the 107 road project, and many others). I aim to address real challenges for folks in our county, such as housing, childcare and business development.

My vision is to bring unity in Jackson County, and foster a connected and thriving community through effective leadership and tailored strategies that will carry us strongly into the future. I would appreciate your support, and feel free to reach out with any concerns or questions you have about the direction of our county!

About
Jon Brown

First and foremost, I am a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ; my faith in God and identity as a Christian is paramount, and impacts everything in my life- every decision I make, the way I lead my family and the way I approach work and public service.

I am a proud Jackson County native, born and raised in the Sylva/Cullowhee area, and graduate of Smoky Mountain High School.

After moving away for college, graduate school and other work and ministry endeavors, I was grateful to return to Jackson County in 2013; since that time I have worked in healthcare as a physical therapist in a variety of settings (Harris home health, Mission Health with Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and Angel Medical Center, and currently with the Cherokee Indian Hospital where I am now serving in a leadership position with the rehabilitation services department.

I have also served on the Sylva Town Board as a commissioner, learning much about public service and the many aspects of local government, including budget planning/approval, passing of ordinances, strategic planning, zoning, road maintenance/construction, support of our first responders and public works departments, and much, much more.

In addition to these experiences, I have immersed myself in other service and leadership roles, including coaching youth sports, serving in my local church (Webster Baptist Church), volunteering with the Community Table and serving on the Pinnacle Park Board.

Through all of these experiences I have learned the value of diligent listening to constituents - YOUR VOICE MATTERS! Leaders in these positions are there to serve YOU! During my time on Sylva's Town Board I prided myself on doing that - listening carefully to the wishes of the residents, listening to all angles of the issues before making decisions, and listening to EVERYONE involved; even seeking counsel from legal professionals and other community leaders when needed. To me this is a big component of diligent leadership, and I promise to bring this same approach to county government/service.

Jon's Campaign Focus

Community Engagement

Transparent Decision Making

I commit to actively listen to Jackson County residents' concerns and opinions on all the issues - and moving forward with decisions/votes ONLY after providing everyone a voice to weigh in and be heard!

Leadership and Representation

Connecting with the Community

My hope is to bring unity among the board of commissioners, and unity in our community - striving to find win-win outcomes whenever possible so everyone in Jackson County feels well represented!

Diligent, hard work

No Community Left Behind

Discipline, Servant-oriented Leadership

Inclusive Governance

I promise to bring to the Jackson County commission the same work ethic I have brought to my other leadership positions and career endeavors. Through competing in a college sport (soccer) and training for and competing in many endurance races including the Ironman triathlon, as well as obtaining a doctoral degree, I have learned what it means to be disciplined and committed - to not give up and press on no matter the difficulty, and this quality has carried over into all other areas of my life; I look forward to serving Jackson County with the same grit and determination - our county deserves nothing less!

Effective local leadership takes into consideration the needs and wishes of ALL the citizens - whether you live on the Qualla Boundary, in a township such as Sylva, Dillsboro, Webster or Forest Hills, or on the Plateau, or out in the country way up in a hollow, I want to represent YOU! I seek to serve the entire county with no favoritism, and no one left out!
